In order to hone these skills, seventh-grade students need regular practice writing a variety of essay styles, including narrative, persuasive, expository, and creative essays. Summaries are written using your own words. There is no personal opinion in a summary. Summaries condense the main points of the story. Summaries are 7th grade writing assignments than the entire story. You will provide examples of conflicts man v man; man v self; man v nature and describe how the conflict could have been resolved. There is no falling action or resolution. Please make sure you provide 6 different events in the story for the rising action, 7th grade writing assignments. You cannot stray from these elements, 7th grade writing assignments. However, you are able to make your story as creative using the exposition, rising action and climax as your guideline. Changing details and providing falling action and resolution are acceptable. For your writing task you will write in 1 st Person and choose to be any one of the characters from the story. Personal pronouns are acceptable in this narrative.


Be specific with the detail as possible. Remember, using detail and dialogue will make your story more interesting. Using the dot point summaries, begin to formulate the story using these summary points as your framework. From your prewriting worksheets, take the information about your characters, setting, dialogue, supporting details and begin to weave this information with your dot point summaries.


Foreshadowing provides hints or clues to what will happen in the story. Irony is having the reader anticipate something but the opposite happens.


Be descriptive! Be detailed! Be creative! Characteristics of a narrative:. Narratives make a point: What is your theme moral, lesson you want to impart to your readers? Narratives convey action and details: the more action and details, the more interesting the story will be. Narratives present a conflict and create tension: do not lose the tension and conflict from the original story.


Narratives use dialogue: be sure to include creative and original dialogue in your story. Narratives are told from a point of view: your story will be told in the 1 st person, a character from the story.


If you write your first draft, please have it written on lined paper skipping every other line. This allows for those reading and editing your work to make comments. If you type your first draft, please double-space your story. The extra space allows for comments and editing.
